Where do the worlds finest Emeralds come from? Colombia. Where in Colombia? The Muzo Mine and the Chivor Mine are the most famous mines. This particular gemstone is from the Muzo Mine. It was mined in 1924. The Muzo Mine itself has a very long history with Spaniards first mining Emeralds there in the 1560s. Emeralds from here are considered to be true Emeralds. In order to be considered a true Emerald both chromium and vanadium need to be present within the chemical composition of the stone. Otherwise it is considered a Green Beryl. Many green beryl stones are sold as Emeralds but are not truly Emeralds. For example all Zambian Emeralds as beautiful as they are not true Emeralds. In the last few years the price of true Emeralds has skyrocketed with many once affordable pieces now reaching unaffordable prices. As many bow out of the diamond industry as a result of synthetic production being so good these days many are looking for a new investment stone.
