Christmas of 1997!
The initial US release of the Tamagotchi happened on May 1st of '97. Since their birthdays' had already passed, the next 7 months of begging, pleading & letter-writing to Santa were absolutely exhausting. Finally, they each got their very own Tamagatchi on Christmas morning and all was right with the universe. UNTIL... later that day when their uncle showed up with a Tamagotchi for 1 and a Bop It for the other. Thank God I asked what the gifts were before they had been spotted! I IMMEDIATELY grabbed the rogue Tamagotchi & hid it in a box up on my closet shelf. The girls were Super excited with their new, albeit shared, Bop It and breathed a deep sigh of relief.
After many, many years, that lonely Tamagotchi was discovered, still sitting in the very same box it had been hidden so long ago.
