Vintage Barbara Ripple original Scherenschnitte paper cut art, dated January 1996. Handmade in vivid red paper, featuring an intricate floral and butterfly motif, mounted on backing for display. Measures 9" x 6.5". Scherenschnitte, meaning “scissor cuts” in German, is the traditional art of paper cutting that originated in Switzerland and Germany in the 16th century and was brought to America by German immigrants in the 18th century. Artwork remains in excellent condition and comes with the original envelope in which it was gifted and stored. A beautiful piece of folk art with Amish/German heritage.
